This is an early-stage, equity-only role.
There is no salary at this stage.
Compensation is via equity (shares or options), with vesting.
Scope, time commitment, and review points are explicit.
This role converts to paid when funding is secured.
We are intentionally not extracting free labour.
This role exists to protect the founder, the team, and the mission.
Role Summary
NdCare and the Neuro Inclusion Project are building a neurodivergent-affirming clinical, digital, and systems-change platform. This work spans healthcare, research, digital health, policy, and organisational redesign.
We are seeking a Chief Operating Officer / Managing Director to act as the operational stabiliser of the organisation.
This is not a conventional COO role.
It is a founder-adjacent systems role, designed to absorb operational load, create structure without rigidity, and translate vision into delivery without harming people or pace.
Purpose of the Role
The COO exists to:
- Turn a complex, values-led vision into clear, humane operations
- Hold structure so the founder does not have to
- Create predictability without coercion
- Ensure NdCare grows safely, credibly, and sustainably
If this role is done well, the organisation feels calmer, not busier.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operational Architecture
- Design and implement operational structures across NdCare and the Neuro Inclusion Project
- Establish delivery cadence, prioritisation systems, and decision pathways
- Translate strategy into executable plans without over-engineering
2. Day-to-Day Management
- Oversee operational delivery across clinical, digital, research, and training workstreams
- Act as the main point of coordination between functions
- Reduce friction, duplication, and role confusion
3. People & Process
- Support early hiring and onboarding (equity-only roles initially)
- Establish role clarity, boundaries, and expectations
- Ensure workloads remain sustainable and non-extractive
4. Risk & Stability
- Identify operational, delivery, and organisational risks early
- Work closely with clinical, compliance, and governance advisors
- Prevent last-minute firefighting by building reliable systems
5. Founder Partnership
- Act as a stabilising counterpart to a neurodivergent founder
- Hold operational decisions so the founder can focus on systems architecture, clinical vision, partnerships, and narrative
- Provide honest, grounded challenge when needed
What This Role Is Not
- It is not a hustle culture role
- It is not a “fix chaos without authority” position
- It is not about scaling at any cost
- It is not about micromanagement or rigid bureaucracy
The COO creates clarity, not pressure.
Equity, Time & Structure
- Compensation: Equity only (shares or options)
- Equity range: ~2–4% (dependent on experience, scope, and commitment)
- Vesting: 4 years with a 12-month cliff
- Time commitment: ~1–2 days per week initially
- Review point: 6 months
- Salary transition: When funding is secured
All terms are transparent and documented.
Who This Role Is For
This role may suit someone who:
- Has experience operating in healthcare, digital health, social impact, or regulated environments
- Is calm under complexity and ambiguity
- Values structure as a protective tool, not a control mechanism
- Is comfortable working closely with a neurodivergent founder
- Cares about ethics, safety, and long-term credibility
You do not need to come from a startup background if you understand systems, governance, and people.
What We Explicitly Welcome
- Neurodivergent candidates
- Flexible communication styles
- Honest conversations about capacity and pace
- Questions about safety, authority, and boundaries
We will adapt the recruitment process to support nervous-system safety.
Why This Role Matters
If NdCare succeeds, it will be because:
- the vision stayed coherent
- the people stayed regulated
- the system stayed humane
The COO is central to that outcome.
