Clinical Director (Governance & Safety)
Fractional | Equity-Only (Early Stage)
⚠️ IMPORTANT... READ FIRST
This is an early-stage, equity-only role.
There is no salary at this stage.
Compensation is via equity (shares or options), with vesting.
Scope, time commitment, and review points are explicit.
This role is fractional and governance-focused
The role converts to paid as funding, pilots, or service contracts are secured
We are explicitly avoiding extractive or unsafe clinical practice.
Role Summary
NdCare and the Neuro Inclusion Project are building a neurodivergent-affirming clinical ecosystem spanning therapy models, digital health, waiting-list support, and system redesign.
We are seeking a Clinical Director to provide clinical governance, safeguarding oversight, and external credibility, particularly in relation to NHS, ICB, and commissioner engagement.
This is not a high-volume delivery role.
It is a protective role... designed to ensure safety, ethics, and clinical integrity as the system grows.
Purpose of the Role
The Clinical Director exists to:
- Hold clinical safety and governance across all NdCare activity
- Provide external assurance to partners and commissioners
- Ensure the NdCare model remains ethical, evidence-informed, and non-pathologising
- Act as a named point of escalation for safeguarding and clinical risk
If this role is done well, nothing dramatic happens... because risk is anticipated and contained.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Governance & Oversight
- Establish and maintain clinical governance frameworks
- Provide oversight of therapy models, pathways, and digital interventions
- Ensure scope of practice is clear and appropriate across roles
2. Safeguarding & Risk Escalation
- Define safeguarding policies and escalation pathways
- Act as (or support) a named safeguarding lead
- Review and advise on complex or high-risk cases (without becoming a bottleneck)
3. Ethical & Professional Standards
- Ensure compliance with relevant professional codes (HCPC / GMC / NMC etc.)
- Protect against drift into unsafe or unregulated practice
- Support ethical decision-making in ambiguous or novel contexts
4. NHS & Commissioner Credibility
- Provide named clinical leadership for NHS, ICB, and research discussions
- Review and sign off on clinical documentation where required
- Support pilot design and assurance conversations
5. Advisory Support to Founder & Team
- Act as a clinical sounding board to the Founder & COO
- Provide calm, grounded challenge when safety or scope is at risk
- Support a culture of learning, reflection, and non-shaming accountability
What This Role Is Not
- It is not a delivery-heavy therapy role
- It is not responsible for managing day-to-day clinicians
- It is not expected to “fix” systemic under-resourcing
- It is not a figurehead without authority
The Clinical Director has real influence, but bounded scope.
Equity, Time & Structure
- Compensation: Equity only (shares or options)
- Equity range: ~0.5–1% (dependent on experience and involvement)
- Vesting: Typically 2–4 years (structure to be agreed)
- Time commitment: ~0.5 day per week (average)
- Term: 12–24 months initially
- Review point: Annual
- Salary transition: On funding, pilots, or retained contracts
Who This Role Is For
This role is suitable for someone who:
- Is a registered senior clinician (HCPC, GMC, NMC, or equivalent)
- Has experience with governance, safeguarding, or service leadership
- Understands NHS and regulated care environments
- Is comfortable working within non-deficit, ND-affirming frameworks
- Values ethics, clarity, and calm over control
You do not need to agree with everything NdCare proposes... thoughtful challenge is welcome.
What We Explicitly Welcome
- Neurodivergent clinicians
- Flexible working styles
- Honest conversations about limits and scope
- A reflective, learning-oriented approach to safety
We will adapt communication and process to support nervous-system safety.
Why This Role Matters
NdCare’s ambition is not to move fast and break things.
It is to move carefully and fix things.
The Clinical Director ensures:
- safety is real, not performative
- ethics are embedded, not retrofitted
- credibility is earned, not claimed
